Primary text

If the debtor states, 'Lahu 'alayya katha dirhaman' with 'dirhaman' in the accusative case (Nasb), he is obligated to pay one dirham. In this case, the accusative noun functions as a specification (Tamyiz). Some Kufan grammarians argue that it is accusative due to severance (Qat'), as if the speaker terminated the initial ambiguous statement and then affirmed the obligation of one dirham.
