Primary text

If a person states, 'I owe him ten dirhams by count' (lahu 'alayya 'asharah dirahim 'adadan), ten counted and weighed dirhams are obligatory. The general term 'dirhams' implies they must be weighed (wazina), and the specification of the count does not negate this requirement, thus both aspects must be satisfied.

Supporting text

If the locality customarily deals with dirhams by count without requiring weighing, the ruling follows the established procedure for cases where the weights in a region are deficient or the currency is adulterated, according to the detailed rulings on those matters.
