If the second exception is not conjoined to the first, it constitutes an exception from the exception, which is permissible in language. This structure is evidenced in the speech of God, such as in the verses concerning Lot's people: {They said, 'Indeed, we are sent to a criminal people'} [Quran 15:58], followed by {Except the family of Lot; indeed, we will save them all} [Quran 15:59], and {Except his wife; We have decreed that she is of those who remain behind} [Quran 15:60].
