Primary text

Affirmation is established by words signifying confirmation such as 'Yes,' 'Ajal' (certainly/definitely), 'Sadaqta' (you spoke truly), 'Wa-la'amri' (by my life), 'Ana muqirun bihi' (I admit it), 'Wa bima idda'aita' (and by what you claimed), or 'Bi-da'waka' (by your claim). These words are designated for validation. Evidence for this is found where the Almighty states: {And did you find what your Lord promised true? They said, 'Yes'} (Quran 7:44). Furthermore, responding 'Bala' (yes/indeed) to a negated question, such as 'Do I not have a thousand upon you?' is a valid admission, as 'Bala' negates the negation. Evidence for this is found in the saying of the Almighty: {Am I not your Lord? They said, 'Bala'} (Quran 7:172). Admission is also established if one says, 'A thousand is upon you according to my knowledge' or 'as far as I know,' because what is known by one cannot be otherwise than obligatory.

If a claimant says, 'Pay me the thousand that I have upon you,' and the respondent replies, 'Yes,' this is an admission, as it is a confirmation of the claim. Similarly, saying 'Yes' to a command like 'Buy this slave of mine' or 'Give me this slave of mine' constitutes an admission based on the preceding principle.
