Primary text

The authorization given by a creditor to his debtor to discharge the creditor's right against himself (the debtor) is valid. This is because the debtor is authorized to waive a right belonging to another person (the creditor) concerning himself, which is analogous to a slave being authorized to emancipate himself.

Supporting text

An alternative view suggests that the debtor may discharge the debt owed by himself, based on the precedent mentioned regarding sales agents.
