What is the legal status of the sale proceeds held by an agent (Wakil)?

The sale proceeds held by the agent are a trust (Amanah) in his possession. The agent is not obligated to hand over these proceeds before the principal (Muwakkil) demands them, nor is he liable for loss due to delaying the handover, because the principal consented to the money remaining in the agent's possession and did not revoke that consent.
