Primary text

In the sight of God, a person is a Muslim and promised the rewards of willing acceptance if they genuinely believe in Islam in their heart and accept it between themselves and God. Conversely, if they do not hold the belief internally, they remain in their disbelief and have no share in Islam. This principle applies equally to those who could legally be compelled and those who could not.

Supporting text

The condition for true Islam for a rational person requires internal belief, as evidenced by the fact that the hypocrites (*Munafiqun*) displayed Islam and performed its obligations, yet they were not considered Muslims.
