What is the required procedure for dealing with an apostate?

If an adult, sound-minded man or woman apostatizes from Islam, they must be summoned to return to Islam for three days, subjected to stringent conditions. If they return, they are spared; otherwise, they must be executed. This ruling applies equally to men and women.
