What is the ruling on believing one who claims prophethood?

Believing someone who falsely claims prophethood constitutes apostasy (Riddah). This is derived from the action of Musaylimah's people who believed him, thereby becoming apostates. The same applies to the followers of Talihah al-Asadi.
