What is the ruling on one who states that wine is permissible, according to Ahmad?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of the Apostate
Primary text
Ahmad stated that whoever says wine is permissible is a disbeliever, and must be asked to repent. If he does not repent, his neck shall be struck. This ruling is conditional upon the prohibition of wine being a matter that cannot be unknown to the person in question, based on established matters.
Supporting text
If a person eats pork, carrion, or drinks wine, disbelief is not ruled solely based on that act, whether in the Abode of War (*Dar al-Harb*) or the Abode of Islam (*Dar al-Islam*), because it is possible that the action was performed while still believing in its prohibition, similar to committing other forbidden acts.
