A solvent person (al-mali') is one capable of fulfilling the obligation. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said that Allah states, 'Who will lend to the solvent one who is not destitute?' Ahmed interpreted 'al-mali' here to mean someone solvent in terms of their wealth, their word, and their physical capacity, and similar factors.
