The guarantor's obligation is absolved if the creditor absolves the principal debtor. This is without known scholarly dispute because the guarantee is a consequence or subsidiary obligation (taba'), and also a security (wathiqah). When the original obligation is absolved, the security is removed, similar to a mortgage.
