Primary text

The obligation of the principal debtor does not become absolved if the creditor absolves the guarantor. This is because the principal debtor is the original obligor, and the subsidiary obligation (the guarantee) cannot absolve the principal obligation when the subsidiary is released without fulfilling the debt. This is analogous to a mortgage being dissolved without the underlying debt being satisfied.
