What amount should be paid for a bequest of Hajj without specifying a monetary sum?

Primary text
If a bequest for Hajj is made without specifying an amount of money, only the amount corresponding to the customary expense (*nafaqat al-mithl*) for the performer is given. Any excess beyond this belongs to the heirs. This is based on the principle that hiring for Hajj is not permissible; rather, a substitute performs it on behalf of the deceased. The funds cover what the substitute needs for the journey, and the remainder is returned to the heirs.
