The term 'Azab' (unmarried) applies to both men and women who do not have spouses. The linguistic basis for this term stems from the concept of isolation or singularity, as everything isolated is termed 'azab'. However, by common convention ('Urf), the term 'Azab' may be specifically restricted to men.
