Primary text

If the deceased man possessed assets equal to half the slave's value in addition to her, and there was no prior consummation, half of her is manumitted and half remains enslaved. This is because half her value constitutes one-third of the total estate (the slave's value plus half her value). If consummation occurred, three-sevenths of her is manumitted, and she is due three-sevenths of her dowry. The reduction in manumission occurs because taking three-sevenths of the dowry reduces the estate value, leading to manumission of one-third of the remaining portion, which amounts to three-sevenths.
