Primary text

If a person bequeaths to his 'brothers' (ikhwah), both male and female siblings are included. This is established by the Divine Statement: "And if they are brothers, men and women" (Quran 4:176). Furthermore, Divine Law dictates that a female heir is veiled (excluded/restringed) by the presence of either a male or a female sibling, as referenced where, if there are siblings, the mother receives one-sixth (Quran 4:11). Scholars have unanimously agreed upon the veiling of the sister by the presence of a brother or sister.
