Primary text

Wearing a silver ring is permissible for a man. The Prophet, peace be upon him, possessed a silver ring, which was subsequently worn by Abu Bakr, then Umar, and then Uthman until it fell into the well of Aris. This chain of transmission regarding the Successors is authenticated. Sa'id commanded the wearing of the ring, affirming he had issued a fatwa to that effect.

There is a narration from Abu Rayhan, transmitted by the people of Sham, stating that the Prophet disliked ten practices, among which was wearing a ring, unless it was for someone holding authority (*dhi sultan*). Imam Ahmad expressed skepticism regarding this specific narration, smiling as if surprised when it was mentioned, suggesting that the established, widespread narrations confirming permissibility override this solitary report, which, if deemed authentic, should be interpreted as signifying mere desirability (*tanzih*) rather than prohibition.
