Primary text

The apparent meaning of the general narration supports the house owner's right to strike the watcher, regardless of whether women are present in the house or not, as the narration regarding the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not specify the presence of women. The statement "If a man looks into your house without permission" is general regarding houses with or without women.

Supporting text

Some of our companions hold that the house owner may not strike a Mahram unless the women are unclothed, in which case they are treated as non-Mahrams (strangers).
