If the homeowner kills the intruder under permissible defense, the homeowner is considered a martyr (shahid). This is based on the tradition that whoever fights to defend his property unjustly taken and is killed, he is a martyr. Furthermore, the homeowner is considered a martyr because the killing was done in defense against an aggressor, similar to a just ruler killed by a rebel.
