Primary text

Blood money is obligatory for the loss of hair only when the hair is lost in a manner from which its return is not hoped, such as when hot water is poured on the head, completely destroying the hair follicles so that it never returns. If the return of the hair is hoped for within a certain period, that period must be waited out. If the hair returns before the blood money is taken, the Diyah is not due. If it returns after the Diyah has been taken, the recipient must return it. This ruling is analogous to the ruling concerning the loss of hearing or sight for which return is hoped or not hoped.
