Primary text

Causing functional impairment to the eyes, such as making them turn sideways (*ihwāl*), causing cloudiness (*'amash*), or diminishing their light, does not warrant a reduction from the established *diyah* for total loss of sight in the other eye, provided the functional loss is minor or not precisely quantified in terms of lost benefit. The ruling remains that partial impairment only requires an *arsh* (proportional compensation for defect), not a reduction of the *diyah* due to the complete loss of one eye.
