Primary text

The compensation for a ja'ifa that completely pierces the body cavity is two-thirds of the prescribed blood money (diyah). This is the opinion held by the majority of scholars, including 'Ata, Mujahid, Qatadah, Malik, Al-Shafi'i, and the People of Opinion (Ahl al-Ra'y). This view is supported by the ruling of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) in the case of a man who was shot by an arrow that penetrated him entirely, where he decreed two-thirds of the diyah, with no known dissent, implying scholarly consensus (ijma'). Furthermore, 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) decreed two apportionments of ja'ifa compensation when the wound penetrated the cavity completely, considering it as two injuries inflicted in two places, analogous to two separate blows.

The opposing view regarding the necessity of the injury originating from the exterior is countered by the principle that the determining factor is reaching the cavity, not the manner of infliction, as the form of the action holds no weight if the meaning (reaching the cavity) is the same. Moreover, the customary manner of injury occurrence is not a legally binding condition.
