Primary text

The Ma'muumah and Aamah are the same injury, distinguished only by regional terminology (Aamah being the term used in Iraq, Ma'muumah in Hijaz). This injury reaches the outer membrane of the brain. The compensation due is one-third of the blood money, according to the general consensus of scholars, excluding Makhul.

Supporting text

Makhul stated that if the injury was intentional (amd), the compensation is two-thirds of the blood money, and if accidental (khata'), it is one-third. However, the ruling of one-third for all cases is supported by the Prophet's letter to 'Amr ibn Hazm, a similar narration from Ibn 'Umar, and reports from 'Ali. Furthermore, since it is a scalp injury, its compensation does not vary between intentional and accidental harm, unlike other assessments.
