Primary text
If all sensation of taste is lost, but the tongue remains intact, a *hukuma* (discretionary compensation) is due if the loss is an unquantified reduction. If the loss is quantified such that one of the five tastes—sweetness, bitterness, sourness, saltiness, or blandness (*udhubah*)—is lost while the others remain, then one-fifth of the *diyah* is due for that lost taste. If two tastes are lost, two-fifths are due, and so on for three tastes. If one taste is entirely lost, one-fifth of the *diyah* is due, and a *hukuma* is due for any remaining partial loss in the other senses.
