What is the compensation for severing both eyes, including their lids?
Chapter on Diyat (Blood Money) for Wounds
Al-Mughni
Book of Blood-Money (Diyyāt)
Primary text
Two full Diyats are required if both eyes, along with their lids, are removed. This is because the eyes are two distinct types of organs, each warranting a full Diyah individually, so removing both together mandates two full Diyats, like the hands and feet.
Supporting text
Full Diyah is incumbent for the lids of a blind man's eyes, because the loss of his sight is a defect unrelated to the lids themselves, and thus does not prevent the Diyah obligation for the lids, just as the loss of the sense of smell does not negate the Diyah for the nose.
