What is due if injury causes impediments to speech without loss of letters?
Chapter on Diyat (Blood Money) for Wounds
Al-Mughni
Book of Blood-Money (Diyyāt)
Primary text
If no letters are lost, but the injury results in impediments such as stuttering (*ajala*), stammering (*tamatmama*), or a lisp (*afa'a*), the compensation due is a discretionary assessment (*hukuma*) for the defect and impairment caused, as the primary function of speech remains intact and the full *Diyah* is not required.
