What is the indemnity if an injury renders the hand useless (paralyzed) while remaining physically intact?
Chapter on Diyat (Blood Money) for Wounds
Al-Mughni
Book of Blood-Money (Diyyāt)
Primary text
If an act of injury renders the hand completely useless (fawwat manfa'atiha), the full Diyah of the hand is due, because the utility has been forfeited, similar to causing blindness while the eye remains or rendering the tongue mute. If an injury causes the hand to become crooked, its strength diminished, or disfigured, a discretionary indemnity (Hukm) is due commensurate with the defect.
