What is the penalty for inflicting two penetrating wounds (jawaf) separated by a partition?
Chapter on Diyat (Blood Money) for Wounds
Al-Mughni
Book of Blood-Money (Diyyāt)
Primary text
If a perpetrator inflicts two penetrating wounds separated by a partition, the diya (blood money) incumbent upon him is two-thirds of the full diya. This is because the independent effect of each wound is considered, and their separation maintains distinct liabilities until an action merges them.
Supporting text
If the perpetrator or the injured party breaches the partition between the two wounds, or if the injury spreads (sarayah) between them, the two wounds become one penetrating wound, and the liability is only one-third of the diya.
