What is the prescribed compensation (Diyya) for a person with a limp (arja) or a bent wrist (as'am)?

Chapter on Diyat (Blood Money) for Wounds

Book 48 · Issue 1 · Bab 2

Primary text

The full compensation (Diyya) is due for a limp, because the defect relates to something other than the foot itself, and for a bent wrist (as'am), which is a crookedness in the wrist (rusgh). Neither constitutes a defect in the foot or the palm that would reduce the full Diyya for those parts. This opinion is maintained because the function of these limbs is not abolished, unlike a paralyzed hand (yad shalaa).

Supporting text

Abu Bakr mentioned that for each of these conditions, one-third of the Diyya is due, similar to a paralyzed hand. This view is rejected because the functions of the foot (due to the limp) and the wrist are not nullified, unlike the paralyzed hand.
