What is the prescribed compensation for the loss of sight in both eyes?
Chapter on Diyat (Blood Money) for Wounds
Al-Mughni
Book of Blood-Money (Diyyāt)
Primary text
If both eyes are injured resulting in the loss of sight due to error, a full Diyyah is due, and the loss of sight in one eye mandates half the Diyyah. This is based on the Prophet's statement regarding the two eyes receiving the full Diyyah, and because they are a pair whose total loss eliminates the function of that type. This applies regardless of whether the eyes are large or small, beautiful or ugly, healthy or diseased, or afflicted with strabismus or matter (ramas). If there is whiteness in the eyes that does not impair vision, the Diyyah remains full.
Supporting text
If the vision itself is diminished, the Diyyah is reduced proportionally to the degree of vision lost. A narration from the Prophet (peace be upon him) states that the Diyyah for one eye is fifty camels.
