Chapter on Diyat (Blood Money) for Wounds

Al-Mughni

Book of Blood-Money (Diyyāt)

Book 48 · Issue 6 · Bab 2

Open in Qurani

Primary text

For body parts existing in a set of three, such as the two nostrils and the septum separating them, the full Diyyah is assigned, and the loss of one part mandates one-third of the Diyyah.

Supporting text

An alternative opinion holds that for the two nostrils, a full Diyyah is due because they are two parts of the same kind, analogous to the lips, but for the septum, a discretionary assessment (Hukm) is required, as it is distinct.
