What is the prescribed indemnity (Diyah) for both jawbones (al-Lihyayn)?

Primary text
The prescribed indemnity for the two jawbones, which are the two bones holding the lower teeth, is the full Diyah. This is because they possess both utility and beauty, and there is nothing else like them in the body. This parallels other paired body parts where the Diyah is for both, and half the Diyah for one, mirroring the rule for other paired members. If these jawbones are removed along with the teeth embedded in them, the Diyah for the jawbones and the Diyah for the teeth must both be paid separately, as the Diyah of the teeth is not subsumed within the Diyah of the jawbones. This is distinct from the fingers, where the Diyah of the fingers is subsumed within the Diyah of the face. The justifications for this distinction are threefold: the teeth are rooted in the jawbones and not directly attached; each, the jawbone and the tooth, possesses its own distinct name; and the jawbones exist before the teeth develop and remain after the teeth are lost, unlike fingers and the palm.
