Primary text
The full prescribed compensation (Diyah) is due if the soft part of the nose (Marn) is completely severed, which is an undisputed ruling among scholars, as narrated by Ibn Abd al-Barr and Ibn al-Mundhir. Evidence is found in the decree of Amr ibn Hazm, derived from the Prophet (peace be upon him), stating, "And for the nose, if it is completely severed, is the Diyah." This ruling applies because the nose is an organ possessing beauty and function, and there is only one of it in the body, similar to the tongue. The Diyah is specifically for the Marn, the soft part of the nose, according to Al-Khalil and others. This is supported by a narration from Tawus regarding the Prophet's decree concerning the complete severing of the Marn.
