When the forearm is severed after the hand has been removed, or the leg after the foot has been removed, the penalty due is arbitration (hukuma) definitively, as a single ruling. This is because assigning one-third of the hand's blood money in this scenario leads to the same penalty whether the hand (or foot) remains or is gone, despite the clear difference in the injury and the absence of specific textual evidence for this precise situation.
