Primary text

If some letters of speech are lost, the compensation (*Diyah*) due is proportional to the number of lost letters, calculated based on the twenty-eight letters of the Arabic alphabet, excluding "La" because its articulation point overlaps with the mandatory sound and the letter Alif. For every letter lost, the required compensation is one-seventh of the *Diyah*. This is because speech is completed by all letters, so what is lost must have compensation equal to its proportion of the speech. There is no distinction made between letters that are light or heavy on the tongue, as established principles where a fixed measure is due do not vary based on minor physical differences, similar to the case of fingers.
