What is the required *diyah* for a woman compared to a man?
General Chapter
Al-Mughni
Book of Blood-Money (Diyyāt)
Primary text
The consensus of the scholars, as narrated by Al-Mundhir and Ibn Abd al-Barr, is that the *diyah* of a woman is half the *diyah* of a man. This is supported by the document of 'Amr ibn Hazm which states: 'The *diyah* of the woman is half the *diyah* of the man.' Furthermore, the *diyah* for the women of every religious group is half the *diyah* of their men.
Supporting text
A rare opinion attributed to Ibn 'Ulayyah and Al-Asamm states that her *diyah* is equal to the *diyah* of a man, based on the hadith stating: 'In the soul of a believing woman is one hundred camels.' This view contradicts the consensus of the Companions and the Sunnah.
