What is the ruling if a child's initial teeth grow in white, then fall out, and are replaced by black teeth?
Chapter on Diyat (Blood Money) for Wounds
Al-Mughni
Book of Blood-Money (Diyyāt)
Primary text
If the initial teeth grow in white, then fall out, and the subsequent teeth grow in black, experts must be consulted. If the experts state that the blackness is not due to an ailment or disease, then the full blood money is due. Furthermore, the ruling concerning teeth being black from the very beginning of creation supports this, as an affliction might exist from the start of creation, thus justifying a portion of the blood money, similar to an acquired affliction.

If the experts declare that the blackness is due to a disease, then the one who extracted the tooth owes one-third of the blood money, or the payment is determined by judicial discretion (*hukm*). The Judge and the companions of Al-Shafi' agreed upon this ruling in this specific situation.
