What is the ruling if a deep wound (Ja'ifah) penetrates from the thigh to the hip, or from the shoulder to the chest?
Chapter on Diyat (Blood Money) for Wounds
Al-Mughni
Book of Blood-Money (Diyyāt)
Primary text
If a knife wound penetrates from the thigh and reaches the hip, or penetrates from the shoulder and reaches the chest, the responsible party owes the *Arsh* (compensation) for the penetrating wound (Ja'ifah) and a separate discretionary compensation (*Hukuma*) for the superficial or secondary wounds. This is because the wounds in areas other than the site of the Ja'ifah are considered separate liabilities for compensation, analogous to a situation where a wound reaches the back of the head after entering the head, requiring compensation for the *Muwaddihah* (a specific head injury classification) and a *Hukuma* for the wound on the back of the head.
