Primary text

If a knife is inserted into a person's existing ja'ifa and subsequently breaches another internal structure, it does not constitute a second ja'ifa, based on the principle that a ja'ifa requires penetration from the exterior to the cavity.

Supporting text

Some scholars among the followers of Imam Shafi'i stated that it constitutes only one ja'ifa. Similarly, a view attributed to Abu Hanifa suggests it is one ja'ifa because the second penetration only went from the interior toward the exterior, not from the exterior surface to the cavity.
