What is the ruling if the nose cartilage (Mārin) and the bridge/structure (Qaṣabah) are both severed?
Chapter on Diyat (Blood Money) for Wounds
Al-Mughni
Book of Blood-Money (Diyyāt)
Primary text
If the nose cartilage and the bridge are severed together, the full blood money (Diyah) is due, according to the قياس (analogy) of the school. This is the established position of Imam Malik. The evidence for this is the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him: 'In the nose, if completely excised (jad'an), there is the Diyah.' Furthermore, the nose structure is considered a single organ, and therefore, no more than one full Diyah is due, analogous to cutting the penis from its root.

Imam Al-Shafi'i holds that the Diyah must be incumbent upon the severed cartilage (Mārin), and a judicial assessment (hukūmah) must be assigned for the bridge (Qaṣabah). This is reasoned because the cartilage alone necessitates the full Diyah, and therefore, the judicial assessment applies to the remainder, similar to severing the bridge alone along with the tongue.
