What is the ruling regarding the removal (extraction) of loose teeth due to age or illness if their function remains?
Chapter on Diyat (Blood Money) for Wounds
Al-Mughni
Book of Blood-Money (Diyyāt)
Primary text
If a tooth is extracted because it is loose due to advanced age or illness, and it still retained its functions, such as chewing, crushing food, and speech (mastication and salivation), the full blood money (Diyah) for that tooth is obligatory. This ruling applies even if only some of its functions remain, as its aesthetic value and some utility are preserved, thus warranting the full Diyah, similar to an afflicted hand or the hand of an elderly person.
