Chapter on Diyat (Blood Money) for Wounds
Al-Mughni
Book of Blood-Money (Diyyāt)
Primary text
If a severed nose is reattached and heals, the ruling is *hukuma* because the part was not permanently separated (it did not become *bain*).

Abu Bakr stated that only *hukuma* is due, similar to the case before healing. Al-Qadi ruled that the full *diya* is due because the nose was detached, incurring the *diya*, just as if it had not healed. Furthermore, that which is separated becomes impure (*najis*), obligating the perpetrator to make it pure after reattachment. Those who hold Abu Bakr's opinion argue against the impurity and the obligation to sever it again, based on the principle that parts of a human being are like the whole, which is pure, citing analogy with other living creatures, thus their parts are pure as well.
