Is the swelling or redness caused by a blow after which the mark disappears compensable?
Chapter on Diyat (Blood Money) for Wounds
Al-Mughni
Book of Blood-Money (Diyyāt)
Primary text
The assessment of liability for blood flowing from a wound, where the diminution ceases upon healing, is only for the fear of harm, which has subsequently vanished. Therefore, it is analogous to a blow that causes the face to turn yellow or red temporarily, which then fades, meaning no compensation is due for the transient discoloration.
