Primary text

The value of Ghurra is established as half of one-tenth of the full Diyya (blood money), which equates to five camels. This ruling is narrated from Umar and Zayd, may Allah be pleased with them, and is the opinion adopted by Al-Nakha'i, Al-Sha'bi, Rabi'ah, Qatadah, Malik, Al-Shafi'i, Ishaq, and the Ahl al-Ra'y (proponents of juridical reasoning). The evidence supporting this is that it represents the least amount stipulated by the Lawgiver for injuries, corresponding to the *Arsh al-Mawdihah* (compensation for an injury exposing the bone) and the Diyya of a tooth. This valuation is confirmed by the explicit statement of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, regarding the Ghurra, equating it to the *Arsh al-Mawdihah*.

Supporting text

A dissenting point regarding the established amount is raised concerning the fetus injured in the *Anmalah* (fingertip), where the compensation is stated as three and one-third camels, which is less than the established Ghurra. However, this difference is reconciled by holding to the explicit text of the Prophet regarding the Ghurra's value.
