Do variations in the quality or quantity of the lost facial hair affect the Diyah?
Chapter on Diyat (Blood Money) for Wounds
Al-Mughni
Book of Blood-Money (Diyyāt)
Primary text
There is no distinction made regarding whether this hair is dense or sparse, beautiful or ugly, or whether the affected person is young or old. This is because the ruling for all other body parts liable for Diyah does not differentiate based on these characteristics.
Supporting text
If a portion of the beard or other hair that possesses aesthetic value remains, there are two views: One view states compensation is taken proportionally, as it concerns a site where Diyah is due for part of it. The second view mandates the full Diyah, as the intended entirety was lost, analogous to the loss of sight, or because the remaining disfigurement might necessitate removing the rest, thus the initial injury caused the full loss.
