What happens if the seller swears the item is theirs, then admits it belongs to one claimant, and subsequently admits it belongs to the second claimant?

If the seller swears the item is theirs, then admits it belongs to the first claimant (who receives it), and afterwards admits it belongs to the second claimant, the seller is liable to compensate the second claimant for its value.
