Primary text

The 'Hajin' horse is one whose father is Arab and whose mother is non-Arab. The opposite is the 'Muqraf,' whose father is non-Arab and whose mother is Arab. Kharaqi intended by 'Hajin' here all horses other than the pure Arab horse, such as the Baradhin (mules or possibly non-Arabian breeds) and others.

Supporting text

Another narration from Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) suggests that if Baradhin horses reach the quality of Arabian horses, they receive an equivalent share. Qadi related another narration that horses other than Arab horses receive no share. There is significant scholarly difference on this matter, with the discussion deferred to the chapter on Jihad.
