Is a custodian liable for damage if they place a ring in the wrong finger specified by the owner?

Primary text
If one is instructed to place a ring on the little finger (al-khinsir) but places it on the ring finger (al-bansir), the custodian is not liable for loss or damage. This is because the ring finger is thicker and offers better security for the item. However, if the placement prevents the ring from settling properly, or if the ring breaks due to the thickness of that finger, the custodian becomes liable, as their deviation from instructions was the cause of the damage.
