Primary text
A physically strong and healthy man who states that he has no means of earning is to be given from the Sadaqah. His statement is accepted without requiring an oath, provided there is no certain knowledge of his falsehood. This ruling is based on the action of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who gave charity to two men who asked him, without administering an oath to either of them. In one narration, it is mentioned that these men approached the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, seeking alms. He looked at them closely, noting their robust appearance, and then stated, 'If you wish, I shall give to you,' implying the giving was discretionary based on their plea.
